The consultancy was developed by the consortium of SISTME Monitoring & Evaluation and Mesopartner PartG (Germany), with the objective of evaluating and strengthening the capacities of ten (10) selected Business Support Organisations (BSOs) from eight (8) vulnerable small island states (Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines) to promote clusters.
The consultancy developed a self-assessment model for the BSOs and worked with the BSOs on capacity building in cluster promotion. The already accumulated knowledge of the BSOs in cluster promotion was analysed and internationally proven cluster intelligence techniques and methodologies were transferred. These activities focused on updating existing cooperation networks and collaboration between clusters.
It is expected that the participation and cooperation of well-established BSOs will give a significant boost to cluster development in the Caribbean. In addition, the collaboration of different BSOs at the national and regional level will increase networking and knowledge flows to strengthen institutions critical to sustainable development. At the end of the consultancy, each BSO promoted at least two (2) clusters, including tourism clusters in Barbados, Belize, Grenada and Guyana.
