Linking Amerindian communities to the global marketplace through value chain development

The purpose of the consultancy was to provide support for the strengthening of linkages between Indigenous /Amerindian Community Development Plans (CDPs) and the private sector, and institutional framework to support local/village economies, under the Amerindian Development Fund (ADF). The ADF is implemented by Guyana’s Ministry of Indigenous People’s Affairs (MoIPA), with UNDP support and is funded through the Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) Guyana REDD+ Investment Fund (GRIF).
The ADF’s objective was to provide support for the socio-economic development and environmental enhancement of Amerindian communities and villages, through the implementation of Community Development Plans (CDPs).
The overall purpose of the Consultancy was to strengthen linkages between the 180 Amerindian CDPs and the private sector to further the development of value chains as means of overcoming key challenges related to the implementation of effective and sustainable community ventures and to develop a policy and institutional framework to support local economies. During the consultancy, more than 40 Amerindian communities were visited in 6 out of 9 regions of Guyana.
