The objective of the consultancy was to organize the members of 11 indigenous communities and three Amazonian eco-lodges to create the bases of a Tourism Cluster, taking advantage of the possibility of fly fishing the arapaima, which is the largest freshwater fish in the world (weighing more than 200 kg). In addition, a Cluster Competitiveness Improvement Plan (CCIP) was developed to apply for Compete Caribbean resources to strengthen the Cluster. The project was approved by the Compete Caribbean Evaluation Panel in May 2013, received funding and was successfully implemented. Nowadays tourists must book more than a year in advance to be able to do fly fishing in the region.
