Creation of Sustainable Microenterprises in Rural Communities in Suriname through Microfranchising

The main objective of the consultancy was to carry out the mid-term evaluation of the project “Creation of Sustainable Microenterprises in Rural Communities in Suriname through Microfranchising” (ATN/ME-13636-SU). This project is executed by the Foundation for the Development of the Interior (Suriname Fonds Ontwikkeling Binnenland – SFOB) and is partially financed by the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB/MIF).
The purpose of the project is to “contribute to increasing the income of the rural population in Suriname through the use of micro-franchising as a tool to build a network of Yamaha engine maintenance workshops”. The specific objective is to “test and validate a micro-financing methodology for engine maintenance in communities in the three interior districts of Suriname.”
The evaluation was conducted taking into account indicators of continuous relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact and sustainability, and took place in areas of very difficult access in the Amazon rainforest, in the interior of Suriname, several days of river travel away.
