Community-based Sustainable Rural Tourism: An alternative for greater economic inclusion of indigenous Aymara entrepreneurs in the Commune of Camarones

The objective of the consultancy was to carry out the final evaluation of the project “Community-based Sustainable Rural Tourism: An alternative for greater economic inclusion of indigenous Aymara entrepreneurs in the Commune of Camarones (Region XV – Arica and Parinacota)”. The project is implemented by the Monsignor Salas Valdés Foundation (FAMSV) and is partially funded by the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB/MIF).

The impact of the project is “to improve the income of indigenous Aymara entrepreneurs and businesspeople in the tourism sector in the commune of Camarones. The objective at the result level is “the implementation of an integral management model of community tourism that promotes innovation and increases the competitiveness of the tourist offer of the commune of Camarones with a sustainable philosophy of local identity and preservation of heritage assets.

To achieve the end and purpose, the project includes the implementation of the following components: i) Adaptation of the destination’s marketing and management system; ii) Enhancement of the supply of differentiated territorial tourism products; and iii) Knowledge Management and Strategic Communication.
